Genki Traveler for combat sports in Thailand

A monthly travel health plan whose wording names martial arts training, sparring and friendly fights. Formal and paid fights are less clear.

Our verdict

Genki Traveler is one of the few plans whose policy wording names training, sparring and friendly fights in martial arts and combat sports as covered. It suits people who live anywhere and want to train at a camp for one to twelve months, paying month by month. It is a medical plan only: no cancellation, baggage or liability cover. If you plan to fight on a stadium card, ask Genki in writing first, because the wording only says “friendly fights”. If you are paid regularly to fight, it is not for you.

What it covers for combat sports

The deciding text is in the Insurance Conditions dated 1 September 2026, section 2.4: You are covered for training, sparring, and other friendly fights as well as for self-defence. Under “Professional sports”: You are not covered for any sport where You are regularly compensated, including receiving salaries, sponsorships, or other forms of payment.

Our status words: Covered, Needs add-on, Ask insurer first, Limited, Not covered, Unclear.
ActivityOur statusWhat decides it
TrainingCoveredMartial arts & combat sports. You are covered for training… (s.2.4). No add-on needed.
SparringCoveredNamed in the same sentence: …training, sparring, and other friendly fights.
Amateur fightsAsk insurer first“Friendly fights” are covered. The wording does not say whether a formal amateur bout on a stadium or event card counts. Ask before you fight.
Paid fightsAsk insurer firstExcluded if you are regularly compensated (salary, sponsorship or other payment). A one-off purse is not addressed. Ask in writing.
MMACoveredThe clause covers martial arts & combat sports without listing disciplines, so MMA training and sparring fall under the same rules.

Price, limits and excess

€63.90 / monthage 30, excluding US/Canada (about US$71)
€1,000,000overall limit for all cover
€50deductible per case; none for inpatient stays
Includedmedical flight home, inside the €1M limit

Price. Our figure is €63.90 a month for a 30-year-old, region “worldwide (limited in Canada & USA)”, with the €50 deductible. It came from Genki on 27 Oct 2026; Genki publishes no rate table, and the price depends on your age and region (s.5). It is a monthly subscription with a one-month minimum and a one-year maximum (s.4).

Limits. €1,000,000 overall coverage limit. All coverage under Your Insurance is limited to this combined total (s.2.5). There is no separate sports sub-limit.

Evacuation. Medically necessary return to your home country is covered, including … specialized worldwide air ambulance service, with no separate cap, so it sits inside the €1M. It must be managed by the Emergency Assistance (MCI Assist) or the insurer (s.2.2).

Excess. You pay the first €50 per Insurance Case … The Deductible does not apply to costs related to Inpatient stays.

Pre-existing conditions. Not covered if you had symptoms, advice, diagnosis or treatment for it in the year before the start date, or if it is a known chronic condition. An injury from an accident in the month before you start is also excluded (s.2.6). An old knee or shoulder injury from training at home is therefore a risk.

Who can buy it

People of any nationality. Genki says the plan is available for people from any country, up to age 69 at the start. You choose a home country of which you are a citizen or resident (s.3.2). Sanctions rules apply.

Buying in Thailand. You can sign up while abroad. For the first 14 days, only medical emergencies are covered, unless you were in your home country, or in a country where you had health cover, the day before the start date (s.2.8).

Claims in Thailand

  • Hospital stays: paid directly. In case of an Inpatient stay, You do not pay Your Hospital by Yourself. The Emergency Assistance will handle all payments directly with Your Hospital (s.2.3). Ask the hospital to contact MCI Assist (+34 911 599 948, genki@mciassist.com) before admission, or as early as possible after an accident.
  • Clinic visits: you pay, then claim in the Member Center. Each invoice must show the date, the provider's name and address, your name, and each item with its price (s.8).
  • Big bills: for costs of €1,000 or more, send an itemised cost estimate at least 5 days before treatment. If you don't, only 50% is paid. This does not apply to inpatient stays managed by MCI Assist; in an emergency, MCI Assist can confirm cover quickly (s.7).
  • Physio: rehab is excluded, but up to 6 prescribed physiotherapy sessions per case are covered.
