Our verdict
battleface is not a plan for combat sports. Its standard UK and European individual travel policies list Martial arts of any kind
, Boxing
and Wrestling
as excluded activities, along with any competition or professional sporting event
. There is no sports extension in those wordings that brings martial arts back. It may suit a friend or partner who travels with you and doesn't train. If you train or fight, pick a plan that names your sport.
What it covers for combat sports
The deciding text is the “Excluded activities and sports” list in the battleface Individual Travel and Medical Expenses policy (EUR wording for the EEA, ref. ST/BUS/020426; GBP wording ref. ST/BIS/020426). The list includes Any organised race, speed trial, time trial, endurance event, trekking, whether competitive or not, competition or professional sporting event
, Boxing
, Martial arts of any kind
and Wrestling
.

|---|---|---|
| Training | Not covered | Martial arts of any kindand Boxingare excluded activities. |
| Sparring | Not covered | Covered by the same exclusion. |
| Amateur fights | Not covered | Martial arts excluded, and any competition or professional sporting eventis excluded. |

Price, limits and excess
Price. We have no price for battleface because it doesn't cover the activity. Our research files hold no quote for it.
Limits. Medical and emergency expenses: EUR 10,000,000 (EEA wording) or GBP 10,000,000 (GBP wording), with a 250 excess. This covers hospital and treatment costs, transport to the nearest suitable hospital, and Additional travelling costs to repatriate You to Your Home Country when recommended by Our Medical Officer
. None of this applies to an injury from an excluded sport.
Pre-existing conditions. Excluded unless declared and accepted. A pre-existing condition is anything that needed surgery, treatment, referrals, investigations or prescription medication in the last 12 months, and any lung, heart, stroke or diabetic condition.
Unlisted activities. The wording says that if your sport isn't listed as included or excluded, you must contact battleface before taking part. Muay Thai is a martial art, so that route doesn't apply.
Who can buy it
battleface sells different standard plans by country. Our data covers residents of the UK, the EEA and the US. The UK and EEA wordings require you to be at least 1 month old at travel and 79 or under when the trip ends. Your home country is the one whose passport you hold, or where you habitually live, as declared when you buy. We could not open the US plan document, so the US position is based on our earlier research.
